The perfect base for days out

Whether you want to shop, enjoy a visit to a museum or one of York's many tourist attractions or prefer the outdoor life, The Old Forge is the ideal base.  There is so much to do in and around York you won't know what to do first.

York is one of the UK's most popular tourist destinations and attractions include:

  • The York Dungeons;
  • The Jorvick Centre;
  • Castle Museum;
  • The Yorkshire Air Museum; and of course...
  • York Minster

For the lovers of the great outdoors, the fabulous Dalby Forest is not far away, with one of the UK's best mountain biking trails.  For road cyclists the Way of the Roses coast to coast cycle route passes just a few miles from The Old Forge (we will gladly provide secure storage for your bikes).  And if you just love countryside walks, you can start right from the front door and be in open fields within minutes.

The North York Moors and its steam railway is also close by.  Stunning scenery is guaranteed.

After a hard day of having fun, you may want to be entertained.  York has a variety of theatres and cinemas, all of which are within easy reach.

The Garden Shed has a fully equipped kitchen, with oven, four hobs, microwave and dishwasher.  But if you are worn out from a hard day on the tourist trail, why not eat out?  York is home to a huge number of high quality restaurants and the Vangarde Centre, with restaurants including Prezzo, Giraffe and Frankie and Benny's is just ten minutes away.  The village of Stamford Bridge, also just ten minutes away has a number of takeaways, including Pizza, Chinese and Indian Food.
