DREAMING OF A STAY AT TOFY ?

When you have a mini-break or holiday at TOFY you will have a luxurious restorative experience.... in meantime (and while you count the sleeps until your stay)......here are Karen's top tips for creating that TOFY feeling at home.

USE HEAT FOR REST 

Do more than just have a steamy hot bath & make it playful and fun. Make yourself a 20 TOG duvet! Sandwich two 10TOG duvets together and put them in one one duvet cover. Or layer your heaviest blankets and lay underneath them. Lying down under a weighted cover calms your central nervous system and tells your body “It’s ok the rest”. 

MAKE A PLAYLIST 

Name it rest & restoration. Or make two. One for rest & one for restoration. This one is personal and the act of making this for yourself is comforting. Making yourself a playlist is a beautiful self care ritual. 

ARE YOU A SOCKS OR SLIPPERS PERSON?

If you LOVE SOCKS keep your favourite pair for rest. Same for slippers. When you do this, putting them on signals to your body “it’s time to relax”. 

EXHAUSTION IN THE DAY

Power nap for 20-45 mins max. Twenty mins works wonders.

REJUVENATE YOUR JOURNALING 

By switching to something you have never done before. Ask Google for new ideas . For example letter writing, following a template to guide you, achievements of the day & gratitude is a good way to boost your mood and give yourself affirmation. Get creative & restoration will flow. 

DAILY COLD SHOWER 

Just do it. Google Wim Hof for how to build tolerance from twenty seconds to three minutes or more. Not once. Do this everyday forever. It’s a daily habit for the morning you never stop.

MASSAGE OIL ONTO YOUR BODY 

Put some olive oil into a jam jar and take it upstairs. Massage the oil over your whole body while your skin is wet. Don’t stop there. Put any moisturiser cream you have on top. Towel off before you dress. Massage and touch sooth and calm. As humans we crave connection and mindfulness. Giving yourself a massage with oil brings you into the present and enables you to reconnect with your body. Olive oil is a brilliant cost effective moisturiser for your skin; when your skin feels silky smooth to touch and you know you have given this to yourself, its powerful affirmation that you can restore yourself. Giving your body time and attention is a clever way to restore your emotional well-being.  

THE POWER OF SCENT 

What do you have have in the kitchen or bathroom that is punchy, wake you up, restorative scent? Find some dried rosemary, keep some with you throughout the day. Sure you may feel silly sniffing a pot of herbs, but laughing at yourself is good for the soul. Alternatively use some Vicks chest rub. This is your emergency energy boost. Much healthier than caffeine of sugar. 

TWENTY MINS LIFE ADMIN DAILY 

Keeping on top of life admin and having that as a daily habit will reduce stress and help you relax at the end of the day. Do you have a special treat you indulge in every day? Stick it to your life admin. Do at the same time or save the treat for afterwards.
